A Passion for Serving Couples
Christie has been working with couples for 19 years. She still takes great joy in walking the journey with with them as they heal hurts and injuries, navigate difficult situations together, and form new and deeper bonds of love. Christie has provided thousands of couple sessions over her 17 years in practice. She considers it a great honor to be invited into the inner world of each partner and of the couple's shared experience as they do the courageous work of caring for their relationship.
No couple's experience is the same, yet EFT provides a map that guides the way to uncover what Christie calls "The story beneath the story" which often gets lost as the couple is caught in a pattern that makes it impossible for them to have the heart to heart conversations that both heal hurts and creates intimacy. This is the deeper story that is based in both partner's longing for greater emotional closeness and safety with their most important other.
Education and Training
Christie holds a Master's Degree in Counseling from Marshall University, and a Bachelor's in Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She discovered EFT in 2010 and became the first Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist in West Virginia in 2013, and the first Approved EFT Supervisor in 2015. Christie is also trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy and Internal Family Systems, which she at times integrates with her EFT work.
Providing Supervision and Training
After having discovered, studied, and practiced EFT, Christie's dream became to see this beautiful and highly effective form of therapy be learned and used throughout the state by many mental health therapists. Toward that end, she has provided EFT supervision to more than 20 EFT therapists in training, and has supervised several EFT Supervisors-in-Training, many of whom are now certified as EFT therapists and/or supervisors. Additionally, she organized the first West Virginia EFT Externship for therapists, first Advanced Externship for therapists, and encouraged her supervisees to run the first EFFT expert trainings in the state. After becoming an EFT Supervisor, she led her own Advanced Externship. Additionally, Christie has offered workshops to other WV therapists in EFT, working with couples affected by affairs, attachment-based therapy, and other special topics. Christie's Story
A native of the Missouri Ozarks, Christie met her husband in 1990 in rural Alabama. They married in 1991, spent a decade serving internationally, and came to West Virginia in 2002 with their two little boys. After nearly 30 years of learning about the struggles and triumphs of marriage and family in their own lives, Trent and Christie both work in professions that support strong and healthy families, Trent as a minister and Christie as a counselor. Among all the things they enjoy in life is the most special joy of spending time together and with their two wonderful adult sons and sweet daughter-in-law.
